1.17 be able to calculate the relative atomic mass of an element (Ar) from isotpic abundances
Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have different number of neutrons
(% of isotope 1 × mass of isotope 1) + (% of isotope 2 × mass of isotope 2) ÷ 100
In the case of chlorine:
(75 × 35) + (25 × 37)∕100
= 35.5
The relative atomic mass of an element is the average value for the isotopes of the element.
It takes into account the percentage abundance of isotopes.
